For girls who want to maximize their prom budgets and leave no detail to chance, a wise investment might be Seventeen magazine's new "Guide to Your Perfect Prom: A Planner & Scrapbook" by Joanna Saltz ($14.95, Hearst Books).

The spiral-bound, hard-cover organizer was designed to be a memento long after prom is just a memory. It's visually engaging and interactive, with space for notes and photos, red dress stickers to mark pages, a detailed index, and even recipes for prom after-party vittles.

User-friendly tabs identify 10 sections, which range from budget, dress and accessories to makeup, hair and body. Tips and advice are provided by a who's who of fashion and beauty, a celeb "style council" that includes hair guru Ken Paves, makeup artist Mally Roncal, stylist Phillip Bloch, fitness king Radu, skin expert Dr. Peter Wisch, and authorities on flowers, diet and love.
