Engineering

Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh named Sally Taylor vice president of finance and administration.

Awards and Honors

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee awarded Mary Ann Trifaro, spiritual care specialist at Family Hospice and Palliative Care, with the 2013 Catherine Baker Knoll Award. The award is presented to women who have displayed exceptional achievement and have been instrumental in furthering the goals of the committee.

Allegheny Valley Hospital said the following medical staff members received Joslin Diabetes Center Primary Care Provider certification David H. Shin, Margaret L. Martin and Elie L. Francis.

In order to receive the Joslin Certification, individuals must meet core standards and quality measures which included clinical outcomes data, a detailed office assessment and on-site training. The doctors had to familiarize themselves with the Joslin Clinical Guidelines, which are the foundations of the Joslin Diabetes Center's clinical and educational programs.

Virginia I. Knor, received a 2013 Outstanding Achievement in Media Award in the category of Agency/Allied from the Media Association of Pittsburgh. Ms. Knor is director of marketing and public relations for the Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division.

The Steel Market Development Institute, a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute, announced that William M. Heenan Jr. is the recipient of the institute's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Heenan was president of the Steel Recycling Institute from 1990 until December 2010, when he retired after nearly 40 years of service in the industry.

The award, which was established in 2004, recognizes professionals who have made significant contributions over the course of their careers to advancing the competitive use of steel in the marketplace.

Piervincenzo Rizzo, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering, is the co-recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Paper Award from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing. Mr. Rizzo and his co-author, graduate research assistant Xianglei Ni, were recognized for their article, "Use of Highly Nonlinear Solitary Waves in Nondestructive Testing" by the ASNT Journal, Materials Evaluation [Volume 70, No. 5, pp 561-569, May 2012].

The Community College of Allegheny County presented the fifth annual Vanguard Diversity Awards. The awards are given annually to individuals, nonprofits or businesses that have demonstrated exemplary leadership, vision or service in promoting diversity and inclusion in Allegheny County and the greater Pittsburgh area.

2013 honorees include:

Individual Trailblazer Awardee -- Ron Alvarado, president and CEO, Novus Staffing Solutions, in recognition of his tireless efforts in diversifying the regional workforce and championing inclusion initiatives to increase employment opportunities for underrepresented populations.

College Awardees -- Christopher W. Robinson, assistant professor, social work, and campus diversity officer, CCAC--South Campus, in recognition of his ongoing commitment to providing culturally diverse and relevant educational programs and events; Kristin H. Spiker, director, admissions and international students, CCAC--Allegheny Campus, in recognition of her ongoing commitment, support and advocacy of international students.

Organizational Awardees: Peoples Natural Gas, in recognition of the company's efforts to build a diverse internal workforce and embrace a culture of teamwork and diversity. CCAC also recognizes Peoples' vision of improving the quality of life for all communities through support of and partnership with community-based organizations and businesses; Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, in recognition of the board's commitment to building a strong and skilled regional workforce. By providing comprehensive services of career development, training and job placement, TRWIB has been instrumental in assisting a countless number of job seekers to find gainful and meaningful employment.

CBRE announced the achievements of the following brokers.

Jeremy Z. Kronman was awarded the SIOR Largest Lease Transaction for representing USAA (landlord of Park Place Corporate Center I & II) on the 110,000-square-foot lease to Williams Field Service. Mr. Kronman is an executive vice president who specializes in agency office leasing in the Pittsburgh office.

David Koch was awarded the SIOR Largest Sale Transaction for representing DiCicco Development on the sale of Park Place Corporate Center I & II. Mr. Koch is an executive vice president with the Pittsburgh Occupier Services Group.
