Two dead in crash in New Castle

Two people died Friday in a two-vehicle crash in New Castle, police said.

The incident occurred on Sampson Street/U.S. Route 422.

New Castle police said the vehicle traveling westbound veered into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene, and the passenger was pronounced dead at UPMC Jameson. 

Police will identify them after next of kin are notified. 

The two occupants of the other vehicle were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Police did not provide their conditions.
