Head-on collision results in multiple injuries on McCullough Bridge

A two-vehicle crash on the David McCullough Bridge (formerly the 16th Street Bridge) today near the Strip District resulted in multiple injuries.

According to Sonya Toler, a city public safety spokeswoman, two cars collided head-on on end of the bridge closest to Penn Avenue around shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Ms. Toler said one of the vehicles, which was carrying a female driver and two children and traveling outbound from the Strip, crossed the center lane and struck another vehicle, which was carrying a male driver and three children and traveling inbound toward the Strip.

The woman, who needed to be extricated from her vehicle by first responders, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. The two children in her vehicle were transported to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

In the other vehicle, two girls were transported to Children. The father and his son were provided transportation to Children’s to accompany the two girls.

Ms. Toler said none of the injuries were serious and that police will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
