Ten senior centers in Allegheny County are extending their hours of operation today and tomorrow to accommodate the elderly seeking refuge from the hot weather.
The state has declared an air quality action day for today, with unhealthful levels of ozone expected to accumulate. The very young, the very old and those with breathing problems are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
The following senior centers will remain open until 7 p.m. today and tomorrow:
North Side Center, at Allegheny Square No. 5, in the Carnegie Library basement, in the North Side.
Benedictine Center, 4530 Perrysville Ave., Ross.
South Side Center, 12th and Bingham streets, South Side.
Sheraden Center, 720 Sherwood Ave., Sheraden.
Penn Hills Center, Jefferson Road, Penn Hills.
Jewish Community Center, 5738 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill.
New Traditions Center, 627 Market St., McKeesport.
Homewood Senior Center, 7321 Frankstown Road, Homewood.
Northern Area's Tarentum Center, 419 Second Ave., Tarentum.
Seton Center, 1900 Pioneer Ave., Brookline.
