Microsoft announced Wednesday that it is acquiring North Side cloud data storage company Avere Systems.
In a release, Jason Zander, corporate vice president for Microsoft Azure, cited Avere’s “innovative combination of file system and caching technologies to support the performance requirements for customers who run large-scale compute workloads.”.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“By bringing together Avere’s storage expertise with the power of Microsoft’s cloud, customers will benefit from industry-leading innovations that enable the largest, most complex high-performance workloads to run in Microsoft Azure,” Mr. Zander’s statement said.
Avere Systems combines file system and caching technologies for clients who run large-scale computer workloads.
Since its founding in 2008, it has worked with global brands such as Sony Pictures Imageworks and animation studio illumination Mac Guff and Moving Picture Co.
Avere CEO Ron Bianchini, in a blog post, said by joining Microsoft, “Avere Systems will be joining Microsoft to continue our mission to enable the most demanding Enterprise workloads to run in the data center, in the cloud and in hybrid cloud environments.”
