A Texas woman was sentenced this morning to 3 to 10 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle in the death of a West Virginia man in 2009 while she was drunk and driving the wrong way on Interstate 79 in Greene County.
Elizabeth Adams, 33, who was employed locally at the time of the incident, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.164 shortly after 2 a.m. on Sept. 20 when police said her Chevy Cavalier struck a pickup driven by Jacob Hively, 27, of Spencer, W.Va.
Police had received several calls that morning about someone driving the wrong way on the interstate, followed by a report at 2:01 a.m. of a head-on crash in Perry Township.
Mr. Hively was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m. Ms. Adams was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for her injuries.
She had a previous drunk-driving conviction for which she had recently finished court supervision.
