Juvenile center escapee captured

Juvenile center escapee captured

Sheriff's detectives today arrested a 13-year-old boy who escaped from Shuman Juvenile Detention Center this week.

The Hazelwood teen had escaped the center Tuesday by going through an unlocked door and jumping down onto several roofs before reaching the ground.

The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office got information overnight that the boy, who has not been identified, was hiding in a house on Giffin Street in Mount Oliver. Around 1:30 a.m. today, detectives went to the house and found the teen hiding in a third-floor attic, according to a press release.

The teen struggled before he was arrested.

Detectives are trying to determine if the owners of the house knew he was an escapee, and they could be charged if they knew.

The teen was taken back to Shuman.
