Pirates make minor trade with Braves

The Pirates and Braves swapped minor leaguers Thursday night, with the Pirates adding utility man Edward Salcedo and sending right-hander Bryton Trepagnier to Atlanta.

Salcedo, 23, hit .212/.294/.357 in 413 plate appearances for Class AAA Gwinnett in 2014. He missed nearly two years because of an age discrepancy, according to Baseball America, before signing for $1.6 million in 2010. He plays mostly third base, but can also play shortstop and right field.

The Pirates drafted Trepagnier, 23, in the 41st round in 2010. In 531/3 innings of relief work for Class A Bradenton in 2014, he had a 2.53 ERA but walked 5.6 batters per nine innings. He has walked 4.5 batters per nine in his five-year minor league career.

The move does not affect the Pirates’ 40-man roster.
