Two roofers convicted of transporting a mentally challenged woman from West Virginia to Washington County for sex will be sentenced today in a West Virginia courtroom.
Jose Jesus Tapias Montes, 38, and Elmer Ramirez, 44, both of Mexico, pleaded guilty in April in U.S. District Court in Wheeling.
The two were set to be sentenced earlier this month, but a dispute arose between their lawyers and federal prosecutors over whether the victim, 20, will testify.
The FBI said Mr. Montes and Mr. Ramirez drove the woman, then 19, from her neighborhood in Wheeling on July 7, 2012, to their house in Washington, where they raped her repeatedly. They returned her to Wheeling four days later.
Both men were working as roofers in Washington and will be deported after completing their prison terms in the U.S.
