Two men are dead after an early-morning incident in Washington County, police said.
Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco said one man shot another and then himself. Washington city police stopped short of confirming that report this morning and said the deaths were still under investigation.
Police were called to the 200 block of South Main Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. for a report that a man had been shot, Washington police Lieutenant Dan Stanek said.
Nathan T. Roman, 30, of Washington, had been shot several times and was found in an alley near Hungry Jose's bar, Lt. Stanek said. He was taken to Washington Hospital, where he died, Mr. Warco said in a news release.
For about the next 30 minutes, police tracked the cell phone of Michael Marchines, 31, of Washington, who was with Mr. Roman earlier in the evening. After Mr. Roman was shot, Lt. Stanek said, Mr. Marchines was moving around in the area, at times several blocks from the alley.
Police found Mr. Marchines on the sidewalk near the intersection of South Main and South streets about 3:15 a.m. He died of a gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide by the coroner.
Lt. Stanek said the men were friends and had been in Hungry Jose's earlier that night. Investigators were preparing to interview a third friend this morning, who was with the men at the bar, to piece together what happened before the shootings.
Lt. Stanek noted that Mr. Marchines had a criminal record, but Mr. Roman did not.mobilehome - breaking - neigh_south - neigh_washington
