![]() Radio Note: Nostalgia/standards radio fares well in local Arbitrons
Wednesday, July 24, 2002 By Adrian McCoy
The spring Arbitron book sparked the usual round of champagne cork-popping at some stations, but not always the ones you'd expect.
For example: It might not happen anywhere but here, but nostalgia/standards format WJAS-AM, which usually does fairly well, jumped to the No. 3 spot from seventh place last spring among total listeners. WJAS morning host Jack Bogut, who once ruled morning drive, enjoyed a nice boost, too: His show gained two points, moving from 10th place a year ago to fifth place.
And the gap continues to narrow between first and second place. WDVE-FM moved into double digits ratings with a 10 share, compared to 11.2 for top dog KDKA-AM.
It was a jump of nearly 2 points for WDVE over last spring.
The battle of the Top 40s continues as WBZZ-FM dropped to eighth, only a fraction of a ratings point away from competitor WKST-FM .
Among 25- to 54-year-olds, the top 10 stations were: WDVE, WXDX-FM, WDSY-FM, KDKA, WBZZ, with WWSW-FM and WZPT-FM tied for sixth place, followed by WSHH-FM and WRRK-FM.
The top five morning shows for this age group: WDVE's Jim Krenn and Randy Baumann, WXDX's syndicated Howard Stern, WRRK's Jim Quinn, WBZZ's JohnDaveBubbaShelley team and KDKA's Larry Richert.
