A new AM radio station hit the airwaves today with an old name and format.

WZUM, 1550 AM, went on the air at midnight with a format of automated rhythm and blues music from the 1960-80s with artists such as Aretha Franklin and Sly & the Family Stone. The station is owned by Ed DeHart and Stephen Zelenko, who operate under the name AM Guys LLC.

The station, based in Braddock, formerly operated as WLFP and featured a business talk format that went off the air in early May.

The station operates at 1,000 watts during the day but at sundown switches to 4 watts. Mr. Dehart said the station will remain automated which technicians work out problems over the next few weeks but it may add local hosts and national news later.

"There's a whole lot of good music out there that we're going to play," he said.
