U.S. Route 422 has reopened in Armstrong County after a fatal crash involving a car and two coal trucks.

The crash occurred at about 5:30 a.m. near Dunbar Airport Road about five miles east of Kittanning. Killed was Dorothy Lynn Lavan, 55, of Indiana, Pa.

Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas said Ms. Lavan's 2004 Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound when she tried to pass a truck. She crossed into the westbound lane and crashed into an oncoming truck, which caught fire. Ms. LaVan was ejected from the car, which came to rest on the eastbound shoulder.

The eastbound truck sustained minor damage trying to avoid the collision.

The westbound truck is owned by Marks Trucking and its driver was identified as Patrick Crawford of New Bethlehem. The eastbound truck is owned by Hite Trucking of Loretto and was driven by Sam Paul Valenti of North Cambria. Neither truck driver was seriously hurt, Mr. Bellas said.

Ms. Lavan was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Robert, was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. The couple was believed to be returning from a weekend visit with relatives in Ohio.

The road was closed in both directions while authorities investigated.
