Shannon Sharpe is one of the NFL's finest tight ends. He also is among the sport's most outspoken athletes, a man who never ducks an issue or minces words.
During his Baltimore Ravens' 16-0 blanking of the Steelers yesterday, he stayed mostly quiet, turning in a rare game without a catch.
But afterward, he was in prime interview form when asked to evaluate his opponent.
"The Steelers have some real problems that they need to have addressed," Sharpe said. "That's probably the worst in my 11 years that I've seen a Steelers team look. And I'm sure Bill Cowher is very disappointed, because they've got a lot of internal turmoil."
And how was he aware of this?
"They've got guys talking about who should be starting, who should be playing, 'I should be doing this,' 'I should be doing that.' Hey, that's the coach's decision. Your job is to go out there and play football, not to worry about who's playing or who should be playing. Right now, they've got a lot of issues. Once they get those issues resolved, I think they're going to be a pretty good football team."
For now, Sharpe made clear, the Steelers are anything but that.
"Today, we beat a team that has some problems and wasn't playing their best game. When we play a good football team ... well, 16 points won't beat very many teams in this league."
