The Riverhounds picked three players, including a Bethel Park High School and Duquesne University graduate, in the A-League soccer draft yesterday at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Midfielder David Kovalcik was the territorial pick for the Riverhounds, who also selected University of Connecticut goalkeeper Matt Chavlovich and Creighton University defender David Wright.
Kovalcik is the Dukes' single-season record-holder for goals, assists and points and was an Atlantic 10 Conference all-tournament selection last season. Kovalcik attended Bethel Park, where the Riverhounds play their home games.
Chavlovich, a New Jersey native, led the Huskies to the NCAA Final Four and Big East championship last season.
Wright, from Louisville, Ky., was the 1999 Missouri Valley Conference player of the year and helped the Bluejays to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
Riverhounds midfielder Justin Evans, a Peters Township native and second in the A-League in assists last year, was a second-round pick of the San Jose Earthquakes of the Major League Soccer.
