Highlights: George-led Hampton slams Mount Alvernia

The first time they played, the Hampton girls' basketball team squeaked past Mount Alvernia by two points. In the rematch last night, sophomore Anna George paced Hampton to a 68-48 victory.

George scored a team-high 16 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Talbots, the No. 4 team in WPIAL Class AAA, improved to 8-1. Lisa Henderson (12), Tara Ballintine (11) and Caitlin Ward (10) also scored in double-figures for Hampton.

TOP PERFORMANCES

Opyrchal hits 1,000: Serra's Jessica Opyrchal had 19 points and 13 rebounds -- putting her over 1,000 for her career -- to lead the Eagles to a 94-38 win over California. Opyrchal, a senior, now has 1,430 career points and 1,002 rebounds.

Big night for Brungo: North Allegheny's Jessica Brungo had 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks as the Tigers claimed third place in the Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fla., with a 64-37 win over Alameda, Calif.
