Despite ratings success that have made it one of the region’s most listened-to radio stations, major changes are due to be announced at all-sports talk The Fan (KDKA-FM, 93.7).

According to an industry source, Paul Alexander is out as part of "The Fan Morning Show" (6 to 10 a.m.) and Vinnie Richichi is out as part of "Vinnie and Cook" (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

The changes are effective immediately.

Alexander is the most shocking of the two dismissals. Richichi long had been rumored to be in trouble with station management.

The first hint that Alexander was in trouble came in the summer when Gregg Giannotti, lead host of "The Morning Show," publicly announced his displeasure with Alexander in a guest appearance on "The Fan" in New York City. Giannotti repeated his unhappiness with working with Alexander while a guest on "Starkey, Miller and Mueller."

Richichi and Ron Cook long have had an on-air feud that was for real and not a gimmick. The two definitely did not like each other. But it was more likely Richichi’s bumbling (also for real) on-air personality, as opposed to a problem with his co-host, that undid him.

There is no word on any replacement. "The Fan" could go in a lot of directions.

Josh Miller, of "Starkey, Miller and Mueller," could move to the Morning Show. He has guested in the past and has a good rapport with Giannotti.

Both night-time hosts, Andrew Fillipponi (6 to 10 p.m.) and Colin Dunlap (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.) would be good fits either as a replacement for Alexander or Richichi.
