On Monday night, Artemis Spanou did not hear her name called in the WNBA draft. Tuesday, she got the next best thing.
The former Robert Morris star was invited to attend the preseason training camp of the Washington Mystics, the school announced Tuesday.
Camp begins April 28 and will feature 15 players competing for 12 spots on the team's final roster. The WNBA preseason starts May 2 while the regular season begins May 16.
Spanou, originally from Greece, was the Northeast Conference player of the year for the second consecutive season after averaging 19.4 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. She also set school records for career points (2,125) and career rebounds (1,563).
"It's been a dream of mine, and now it might come true," Spanou said in a statement. "Everyone wants to make it to the WNBA and now I have an opportunity to show what I can do."
