The Pirates rounded out their training staff Tuesday by promoting Ricky White to become the team's strength coach and hiring Kevin "Otis" Fitzgerald to join as physical therapist, replacing recent departures Kiyoshi Momose and Jeremiah Randall.
White was the strength and conditioning coach at Class AAA Indianapolis the past two seasons and worked in the same capacity at Class AA Altoona form 2011-13. Fitzgerald has worked at Drayer Physical Therapy Institute in Wexford since 2004.
Returning to the big-league training staff are head athletic trainer Todd Tomcyzk and assistant athletic trainer Ben Potenziano. Bernie Holliday remains the director of mental conditioning, a position he's held for the past six seasons.
Chris Johnson, who left the Golden State Warriors to join the Pirates last summer, enters his first full year as director of performance. Brendon Huttman, the team's strength and conditioning coach since 2011, has been promoted to sports science coordinator.
