FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Chris Stewart had surgery to shave down the meniscus in his right knee today, according to his agent.

His recovery timetable depends on how the swelling in the knee progresses during the next few days, but four to six weeks is the hopeful estimate.

The catcher, acquired from the Yankees during the offseason, felt a couple of pops in his knee during a March 12 game, his agent, Jim Kuzmich, said. The knee tightened, and Stewart opted against taking one final plate appearance.

"The next day, he came in and said, 'You know, this just isn't feeling right," Kuzmich said.
