The Pirates added a rookie-level Bristol, Va., minor league affiliate to their roster of farm teams, giving them nine affiliates in all, the team announced today.
The Bristol affiliate, which plays in the Appalachian League, was formerly affiliated with the Chicago White Sox.
"We are looking forward to expanding our development system into the Appalachian League as well as beginning a new relationship with the fans and staff in Bristol, Virginia," director of minor league operations Larry Broadway said in a statement. "As we continue to invest in the draft and Latin America, the addition of an advanced Rookie League team provides us another opportunity to maximize the development time of every player who enters into our system."
The Bristol affiliate joins Class AAA Indianapolis, Class AA Altoona, high-A Bradenton, low-A West Virginia, short-season Jamestown, the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Pirates and two Dominican Summer League entries in the minor league farm system.
