ALTOONA -- The Pirates and Altoona Curve announced today that they have extended their player development contract through the 2018 season.

That means the Curve will become the longest-standing Pirates affiliate in the modern era; the two began their relationship in 1999.

"We're excited to extend our affiliation with the Major League club the fans of our region have been passionate about long before the Curve came into being," Curve owner Bob Lozinak said. "We're grateful to the Pirates' ownership and management for their commitment to the Curve."

Pirates President Frank Coonelly added, "We are extremely pleased to continue our terrific, long-term partnership with the Curve."

The announcement of the extended affiliation between the two clubs was announced today at People Natural Gas Field before an exhibition game between the Pirates and Curve.
