Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced it will hold a 5K race on Saturday, Apr. 9. The race will take place on the North Shore, starting on Federal Street and finishing at home plate inside PNC Park.

The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities.

Runners can run in the 5K individually or take part in the team challenge, consisting of teams of four runners.

Top male and female individual runners in each age group (under 15, 16-19 and 10 year age groups from 20 to 70-plus), as well as top male, female and co-ed teams, will be recognized on the field at PNC Park prior to that night's game against the Colorado Rockies.

"We are very excited to partner with our many sponsors to host the inaugural Pittsburgh Pirates 5K Home Run," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said. "It gives us a great opportunity to interact with our fans, but also raise money to support the many important Pirates Charities programs and initiatives that have had a direct, positive impact in our community."

To register or find out more information on race details, fans can log onto pirates.com/5Khomerun, or pick up registration forms at DiBella's Old Fashioned Submarines, participating Bob Evans locations or the Pirates Administrative Offices at PNC Park.
