PHILADELPHIA — Center Jordan Staal has been fined $2,500 by the NHL for a hit from behind on Philadelphia defenseman Braydon Coburn during the second period of the Penguins' 6-4 victory at the Wells Fargo Center today.

Staal was assessed a minor penalty for the hit, and scored a shorthanded goal that tied the game, 2-2, a few minutes after leaving the penalty box.

He declined to speak with reporters after the game.
