There's no question veteran right winger Mark Recchi faces an uncertain future with the Penguins.
What's less clear is whether Recchi's been given permission by the team to investigate possible trades.
A Canadian radio report said Recchi, a healthy scratch for four of the Penguins' past five games, has received such clearance, but neither he nor team officials will confirm that. Or, it's worth noting, deny it.
Earlier this week, Recchi's agent, Rick Curran, acknowledged that he has discussed Recchi's future with general manager Ray Shero, but declined to say whether he has requested a trade.
Recchi, who makes his permanent residence here, was noncommittal when asked today if he believes something can be worked out that would make it possible for him to play out the balance of his one-year contract here.
"I'm not really sure," Recchi said. "We're kind of fighting an uphill battle here right now. I don't know where I fit in here."
The Penguins will play Dallas tomorrow at 7:38 p.m. at Mellon Arena.
