Four fish were taken, including a lunker caught with an 11 1/2-foot noodle rod and released by Jim Saccamango of White Oak, during the Post-Gazette's Fish On steelheading trip to Elk Creek Nov. 16.

The educational program included a Lenzner motor coach ride, a tour of the Fairview steelhead hatchery, conversation with Fish and Boat Commission biologist Chuck Murray and a stop at Trout Run nursery waters.

Trout Run Bait & Tackle offered discounts and free egg sacks, and hand-tied steelhead flies were donated by Penn's Woods West Trout Unlimited members. Anglers received handouts from Fish and Boat and the Post-Gazette, and steelhead guides John Nagy and George Douglas contributed books and other educational products.

With coaching from veteran TU steelhead anglers Christian Shane, John G. Hayes, Bob Heil Jr., Ron Milavec and Peter TenEyck, and outdoors editor John Hayes, participating anglers spread out from near the mouth to about a mile above Elk Creek Access Area at Erie Bluffs State Park.
