The New Castle boys basketball team avenged a loss in last year's PIAA playoffs and also extended its long regular-season winning streak.

New Castle went to double overtime before defeating Lower Merion, 62-59, in the Kobe Bryant Classic Saturday night at Lower Merion High School near Philadelphia. With the win, New Castle stretched its regular-season winning streak to 60 games and also got payback for a loss to Lower Merion in the PIAA semifinals last year.

In the second overtime, New Castle trailed, 59-56, before Drew Allen's four-point play with 11 seconds left. He hit a 3-pointer, was fouled and made the free throw to give New Castle the lead for good. Malik Hooker led New Castle with 17 points and Allen added 15.
