Double-double lifts Class A's top team past No. 3 in AA

Brenna Wise scored 25 points -- 14 of them in the second half -- and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Class A No. 1 Vincentian Academy (7-0) past Class AA No. 3 Bishop Canevin (7-2), 57-50, in the Butler tournament.

The game featured the defending WPIAL Class AA and Class A champions.

Becca Turney led the Crusaders with 15 points. Johnie Olkosky led Class AA No. 3 Bishop Canevin with 13 points.

Other top games

* Liz Duer scored 17 points as Quigley (4-3) shocked Central Valley (5-3), 56-42, in the C.J. Betters Tournament. Central Valley's Seairra Barrett led all scorers with 22 points.

* Madeleine Collins scored 23 points to lead Class AAAA top-ranked Mt. Lebanon (5-0) over South Miami, 56-43, at the Junior Orange Bowl Tournament. Maura Wallace added 11 points for the Blue Devils.

* Rachel Phillis scored 22 points -- eight in overtime -- to lead Trinity past Allderdice, 60-49, in the Serra tournament. Sierra Fordham led Allderdice (1-6) with 31 points.

Stars of the night

* Greensburg Salem's Karly Mellinger surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career, but the Golden Lions (4-4) fell to Hempfield (6-3) in the Hempfield Tournament, 73-37. Leah Knizer led Hempfield with 21 points.

* Lexi Posset scored 21 points to lead Beaver (6-1) past Shenango (5-3), 47-23, in the Penn State-Beaver tournament.

* Mallory Heinle scored 27 points to lead St. Joseph (6-1) past Sprindale (3-4), 58-36, in the St Joseph tournament.

* Sydney Rabold scored 20 points and Kelly Haslett added 18 to lead Ambridge (3-3) past Montour (0-7), 56-37, in the C.J. Betters Tournament.

* Laura McGowan scored 28 points to lead Class AA No. 5 Brentwood (7-0) over Charleroi (6-2), 58-48, in the California tournament.

* Jessica Conrad scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead Laurel (5-4) to a 54-30 victory over Union (2-7) in the Union tournament.

* Chassidy Omogrosso scored 26 points to lead Class AAA No. 1 Blackhawk (8-0) over Greensburg Central Catholic, 84-60, in the Hempfield tournament. Carolyn Appleby led the Centurions (4-3) with 23 points.

* Krista Pietropola scored 24 points and had 10 assists to lead Plum (6-2) past Westland, Ohio, 66-58, in the Westland tournament.

* Jenna Lucas scored 28 points to lead Fort Cherry (1-3) to a 41-36 victory over Cornell (4-3) in the Sto-Rox tournament.

* Kaitlyn Slagus scored 28 points and secured 22 rebounds to lead Class AAA No. 5 Belle Vernon (6-1) over Uniontown (3-4), 66-48, in the Laurel Highlands tournament.
