Scott Milanovich is a championship coach in the Canadian Football League. Twenty-three years ago, he led Butler on a memorable run to a WPIAL championship game.
Milanovich was a standout senior quarterback at Butler in 1990, twice selected to the Post-Gazette Fabulous 22. In the playoffs of 1990, Milanovich and Butler got hot after finishing the regular season in second place in the Quad North Conference.
Butler upset Upper St. Clair, 25-14, in the first round as Milanovich completed 12 of 15 for 189 yards on a rainy night. Butler's playoff run came to an end at Three Rivers Stadium when it lost to North Allegheny, 9-0, in the title game. That season, Milanovich finished 110 of 224 for 2,040 yards.
He went on to become the starting quarterback at the University of Maryland and was on the roster of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1996, playing in one game.
Milanovich is in his second season as the coach of the Toronto Argonauts. A year ago, he led Toronto to a win in the Grey Cup, the CFL's version of the Super Bowl.
