With three seconds on the clock and the score tied, Yough quarterback Tyler Donahue launched a "Hail Mary" pass into the end zone.
His prayer was answered as Jordan Bryan came down with the 43-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give the host Cougars (4-4, 4-3) a thrilling 38-31 win against Greensburg Central Catholic (4-4, 4-3) in the Interstate Conference Friday night.
"We knew we needed to get it in the end zone," Yough coach Mark Crovak said. "Jordan went up and got it."
The last-second pass capped a rally by the Cougars, who trailed, 31-24, in the fourth quarter.
South Fayette 48, South Park 0
South Fayette has the top scoring offense and top scoring defense in Class AA and both were on display in a shutout win against visiting South Park (5-3, 5-2) in a Century Conference showdown.
The No. 3-ranked Lions (8-0, 7-0) racked up 245 yards rushing and quarterback Brett Brumbaugh passed for 270 yards and two scores.
Brumbaugh connected with Grant Fetchet for a 28-yard touchdown pass and with Justin Watson for a 62-yard touchdown pass to help the Lions race out to a 28-0 halftime lead. Fetchet added touchdown runs of 17 and 1 yard. The South Fayette defense shut out South Park for the second consecutive season.
Waynesburg 26, Jeannette 14
John Glen Davis and Hunter Cenname combined to rush for 322 yards and all four Waynesburg touchdowns as the Raiders (4-4, 3-4) rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit to spring an upset at Jeannette (4-4, 4-3) in the Interstate Conference.
New Brighton 20, Riverside 12
Payton Fath passed for a score and ran for another as New Brighton (5-3, 4-2) held off upset-minded Riverside in a Midwestern Conference game. Fath tossed a 17-yard touchdown to Craig Thompson and rushed for a 1-yard score. Marcel Cleckley scored both touchdowns for the visiting Panthers (0-8, 0-6).
Southmoreland 30, Charleroi 27
Chaleroi nabbed a fourth-quarter lead when Matt Carr threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game to Dakota Moorer, but it was short-lived. Aaron Bailey returned the ensuing kickoff 78 yards for a score to put Southmoreland (3-5, 3-4) ahead for good in an Interstate Conference game at Charleroi (1-7, 0-7). Carr and Moorer connected on touchdown passes of 23, 30, 40 and 19 yards.
McGuffey 41, Keystone Oaks 40
Pat Frey's 6-yard touchdown run with 2:30 to play pushed visiting McGuffey (4-4, 3-4) past Keystone Oaks (1-7, 1-6) in a wild Century Conference game that saw seven lead changes. The Highlanders led, 35-26, in the fourth quarter but Johnny Beveridge scored two touchdowns to put the Golden Eagles ahead, 40-35, with 3:22 to play before McGuffey's late-game heroics.
Quaker Valley 41, Burgettstown 13
Quaker Valley rolled past host Burgettstown (0-8, 0-7) in the Century Conference. Dane Jackson connected on a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tre'won Marshall and Jackson also added a 90-yard punt return for a score for the Quakers (7-1, 7-1).
East Allegheny 48, Burrell 17
Kyle Whipple rushed for two touchdowns and returned a fumble 50 yards for another to carry host East Allegheny (4-4, 4-4) to an Allegheny Conference win against Burrell (3-5, 2-5). Taizjon Brown added rushing scores of 3 and 59 yards while leading the Wildcats with 144 yards rushing.
Beaver 41, Ellwood City 40
Jordan Yates' 5-yard touchdown run along with the ensuing extra point allowed Beaver to escape Ellwood City with a Midwestern Conference win. The Bobcats (6-2, 4-2) led, 34-20, in the third quarter but watched as the Wolverines (3-5, 2-5) stormed back to take a 40-34 lead behind Jordan Meyers, who threw for two scores and rushed for 255 yards and two more scores.
Shady Side Academy 38, Summit Academy 8
Tucker Gillman attempted six passes, half of which went for touchdowns as No. 3 Shady Side Academy (8-0, 7-0) rolled to an Allegheny Conference win against visiting Summit Academy (4-4, 4-3). Gillman connected with Tyrel Hill on touchdowns of 55 and 21 yards and with Dennis Briggs on a 24-yard score.
Washington 36, Freeport 7
Chase Caldwell and Thomas Cherry each returned interceptions for touchdowns as host Washington (7-1) defeated Freeport (2-6) in a non-conference game.
Seton-LaSalle 28, Mohawk 14
DaQuay Broadwater rushed for scores of 20 and 23 yards and added an 18-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Perone to lift Seton-LaSalle (6-2) past Mohawk (3-5) in a non-conference game at Peters Township.
Kittanning 36, Valley 21
Kittanning (8-0, 7-0) remained perfect with an Allegheny Conference win against visiting Valley (5-3, 4-3) thanks to a big game from Braydon Toy. Toy threw three touchdown passes, rushed for an 82-yard touchdown and returned a punt 75 yards for another touchdown.
Steel Valley 31, South Allegheny 21
DeWayne Murray scored on rushes of 3, 37 and 70 yards as Steel Valley (3-5, 3-4) held off the visiting Gladiators (1-7, 1-6) in the Century Conference.
Ford City 38, Deer Lakes 21
Five players scored for Ford City (3-5, 2-5) as the Sabers beat visiting Deer Lakes (0-8, 0-7) in the Allegheny Conference.hsfootball
