Quaker Valley advanced to its second PIAA semifinal in five years with a 77-66 win against Middleton (22-6) Saturday at Altoona.
“Our guys showed poise throughout the game,” Quakers coach Mike Mastroianni said.
“We were in this game last year and our guys understood what was at stake from that experience.”
Danny Conlan led five Quakers in double figures with 20 points. Quaker Valley (25-3) was 15 of 18 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Strong Vincent 68, New Castle 43: The Red Hurricanes (25-3) have been living and dying by the 3-point shot all season. It was the latter in their PIAA quarterfinal loss to the Colonels (26-3) at Slippery Rock University. New Castle entered the game making 45 percent of its 3-point shots this postseason, but only made 3 of 15.
Meadville 53, Mars 46: Robby Carmody finished with a game-high 25 points, but was held to just two points in the fourth quarter as the Planets (17-10) lost to the Bulldogs (25-1) at Slippery Rock University. Meadville put the game away from the free-throw line.
Lincoln Park 70, Washington 58: With 23 points, Nelly Cummings passed Danny Fortson for seventh place on the all-time WPIAL scoring list with 2,344 points as the Leopards (24-5) beat the Prexies (22-6) at Baldwin.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 63, Central Cambria 40: The Trojans (24-5) jumped to a 37-17 halftime lead against the Red Devils (22-7) to cruise into the PIAA semifinals. Kenny Fukon led the way with 16 points.
Sewickley Academy 61, Greensburg Central Catholic 46: The Panthers (23-4) advanced to the PIAA semifinals for the second year in a row with a win against the Centurions (25-2) at Baldwin. Justin Pryor led the way with 19 points.
Bishop Canevin 66, Our Lady of Sacred Heart 60: The Crusaders (22-5) advanced to the PIAA semifinals after defeating the Chargers (20-8) at Ambridge. Walter Bonds led Canevin to its third win of the season against OLSH with 24 points.
Monessen 74, Saltsburg 34: Jaden Altomore led the Leopards (21-7) to their second consecutive PIAA semifinal with 26 points against the Trojans (26-2) at Norwin.
