HERSHEY, Pa. -- Neumann-Goretti High School of Philadelphia won its fourth PIAA Class AAA championship in five years when it beat Susquehanna Township, 64-57, in overtime at Giant Center.

The game was close throughout and Neumann-Goretti's Ja'Quan Newton missed a shot in the lane and a tip in the final few seconds of regulation. The teams went into overtime tied, 53-53, and Neumann-Goretti won the game at the free-throw line. Neumann-Goretti (27-4) had only one basket in the extra period but made 9 of 10 free throws.

Susquehanna Township (23-8), meanwhile, was 0 for 6 from the field in overtime and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Newton is the all-time leading scorer in Philadelphia Catholic League history and finished his career with 1,971 points.

Class AAAA girls

Cumberland Valley 49, Spring-Ford 30: Spring-Ford won the Class AAAA title by beating Cumberland Valley last year, but Cumberland Valley turned the tables and walked away with the gold trophy this year. Spring-Ford had the reputation of an excellent defensive team, allowing only 35 points a game, but it was Cumberland Valley that had the tremendous defensive effort. Spring-Ford scored fewer points than any Class AAAA finalist since the classification was formed in 1984. Cumberland Valley (28-5), located near Harrisburg, led at halftime, 23-14. Spring-Ford (27-7), a suburban Philadelphia team, couldn't recover.
