Girls basketball roundup: Blackhawk surges to beat Mercyhurst

Chassidy Omogrosso scored 12 of her game-high 16 points as Blackhawk earned a 51-34 victory against Mercyhurst in a Class AAA first-round game at Moon.

The WPIAL champion Cougars broke things open with a third-quarter surge. Blackhawk (24-2) scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to break open an 18-18 halftime tie.

Halle Denman added 15 for the Cougars, and Courtney Vannoy added 12 points and cleared eight rebounds.

Emily Stoicovy and Erika Woll led the 19-7 Lakers with nine points apiece.

Other Class AAA games

Elizabeth Forward 52, Bradford 30: Olivia Barkley scored 15 points and Natalie Fekula added 14 points and 10 rebounds as the WPIAL semifinalist Warriors improved to 20-4 with a first-round victory against the Owls (21-3) at Pitt-Bradford.

Mount Pleasant 58, Huntingdon 51: The Vikings (16-9) outscored Huntingdon (14-7) in overtime to secure the victory at Hollidaysburg. Elaina Fearer led the Vikings with 19 points. Morgan Barlock added 16 points.

South Park 65, Trinity 48: The WPIAL runner-up Eagles defeated the Hillers for the fourth time this season at Moon. Halie Torris led South Park (22-5) with 24 points. Allison McGrath and Lindsey Noss added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Mary Dunn led the Hillers (17-8) with 23 points.

Villa Maria 42, West Mifflin 35: The Titans (18-7) saw their season come to an end with a loss to the Victors (22-3) at Penn Hills.

Class A

Vincentian 53, Port Allegany 36: Brenna Wise scored 19 points, cleared 14 rebounds and blocked 4 shots as the WPIAL champion Royals (23-3) took a commanding 32-11 halftime lead against the Gators (23-2) and cruised to the victory at Chartiers Valley. Torrieonna Cash added 13 points for the Royals. Becca Lathroy led the Gators with 23 points.

Serra Catholic 60, Cochranton 52: Megan Sieg scored 12 of her team-leading 18 points in the second half as the Eagles (24-3) rallied in the third quarter to defeat Cochranton (19-6). Danielle Dindak and Nicole Pero added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Serra Catholic. Serra outscored Cochranton, 18-5, in the third quarter.

Kennedy Catholic 53, California 34: The Trojans (19-5) saw their season end with a 19-point loss to Kennedy Catholic (22-2) at Slippery Rock University. Freshman Kylie Huffman paced California with 14 points. Taylor Hood and Tatum Kress led Kennedy Catholic with 15 points apiece.

Quigley Catholic 43, Southern Fulton 33: Liz Duer led the 19-6 Spartans with 14 points, and Gabrielle Smith added 13 points in a game played at Pitt-Johnstown. Quigley outscored Southern Fulton (18-11) in the second and third quarters.

Clarion 47, Frazier 40: Lauren Timko scored 15 points, but the Commodores (16-7) fell to Clarion in a first-round game at Clarion University. Kyla Miles led Clarion (21-5) with 19 points. Frazier was outscored 25-14 in the second quarter.
