A year ago, Devin Wilson had just finished the high school football season and was getting ready for his senior season with the Montour basketball team. Today, he is getting ready to face the No. 1 college basketball team in the country.
Wilson, a freshman at Virginia Tech, has earned the starting point guard position. The Hokies take on No. 1 Michigan State tonight.
In his first three games for Virginia Tech, Wilson averaged a team high 34.3 minutes along with 9.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.6 assists. He scored 16 points in a victory against West Virginia last week.
* Two former WPIAL runners qualified for the Division I championships today in Terra Haute, Ind. Elaina Balouris, a graduate of Hampton and a senior at the College of William & Mary, finished sixth at the Southeast Regional last week. Margo Malone, a graduate of North Hills and a sophomore at Syracuse, finished 11th at the Northeast Regional.
* Quarterback C.J. Brown, a former star at Seneca Valley, led the University of Maryland football team to a 27-24 overtime victory at Virginia Tech Saturday. Brown ran for 122 yards on 23 carries and threw for 135 yards. The win broke a three-game losing streak and gave the Terrapins a 6-4 record. Brown has completed 124 of 202 for 1,608 yards and also has run for 378 on 94 attempts.
