High School Basketball Roundup: Seton-LaSalle topples Class AAAA power Mt. Lebanon

Seton-LaSalle, the top-ranked team in Class AA, led by 16 points after the first quarter and held off host Mt. Lebanon's comeback attempt en route to a 58-51 win.

The Rebels (3-0), who won the Class AA PIAA championship last season, have won 33 consecutive games and 56 of their past 57.

It was the second win in a row against a Class AAAA school for Seton-LaSalle, which defeated Oakland Catholic Saturday by 35 points.

The Rebels got 19 points from Nicolete Newman and 14 points from Naje Gibson.

Christine Ehland and Alex Ventrone had 16 and 14 points, respectively, for Mt. Lebanon (2-1), the WPIAL's No. 3-ranked team in Class AAAA.

Other top girls games

n Taylor Cohen stole an inbounds pass and scored with 6.4 seconds remaining to lift Fox Chapel (3-0) to a 60-58 win against visiting Baldwin (2-1). Erin Mathias led Fox Chapel with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Cohen added 16 points. Mandi Johnston led the Highlanders with 19 points.

n Central Valley (3-0), the No. 4-ranked team in WPIAL Class AAA, led visiting Riverside by one at halftime, then outscored the Panthers, 29-9, in the third quarter to pull away for a 68-46 win. Central Valley's Madi Rowan and Riverside's Alex Deep each scored 22 points.

n Two days after knocking off the top team in Class AAAA, Bethel Park, South Park took down another Class AAAA team in Butler (1-2), 68-49. Halie Torris led the Class AA No. 3-ranked Eagles with 25 points.

n Bethel Park (2-1) rebounded from a loss by beating Norwin (1-2) on the road, 64-55. Megan Marecic led the Black Hawks with 12 points.

n Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 18 points to lead Class AAA top-ranked Hopewell (3-0) to a 56-13 win against Beaver Falls (1-2). Cassidy Rizzo added 10 points for the defending Class AAA WPIAL champions.

n Halle Denman scored 15 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded 10 steals to lead Blackhawk (3-0) to an 81-45 victory against host Montour (1-2). Chassidy Omogrosso added 23 points for the Cougars, the No. 2-ranked team in WPIAL Class AAA.

Top boys games

n Brandon Miller scored a game-high 23 points, including the winning 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left, as Avella (1-2) beat host Jefferson-Morgan (1-2), 57-54.

n A.J. Greco hit four 3-pointers and scored 23 points to help Baldwin (2-1) to a 72-59 win against visiting Hopewell (1-2). Arnes Bajgora added 17 points for the Highlanders.

n Matt D'Amico scored 22 points to lead Fox Chapel (3-0) to a win against visiting North Hills (1-2), 69-43. Billy Urso added 11 points for the Foxes and hit a 60-footer to end the first half.

Standout performer

n McGuffey's Sammie Weiss scored 31 points, had 15 steals and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Highlanders' 75-18 win against Southmoreland.
