With hall-of-fame coach Al Arbour on the bench, the Islanders claim a 3-2 win against the Penguins.

PREGAME

-Did Paul Alexander just call Sandis Ozolinsh "Sandis Os-Nos-Quoy?" We've mispronounced names, but that was an absolute train wreck.

-Former Penguins coach Scottie Bowman and former Islanders general manager Bill Torrey drop the ceremonial pucks.

-Marc-Andre Fleury gets the call in net.

-With Ryan Whitney still nursing a groin injury, Alain Nasreddine sees his first action of the season in an NHL uniform.

-In our preview yesterday, we incorrectly reported that the Islanders were wearing their "old white uniforms." Well it wasn't our fault. Honest. The release on the Islanders Web site stated that they would be wearing their "old 'Home' whites."

FIRST PERIOD

15:30: Fleury goes all Ty Conklin on a puck that's played near the Penguins zone and nearly gives it away to Bill Guerin. Fortunately for the Penguins, Fleury is able to freeze it.

10:09: As Sidney Crosby takes a seat on the bench, an unidentified Penguin player sitting next to him on the bench can be seen blowing his nose onto the floor of the bench. Ick.

7:54: Sidney Crosby fires a pass from the corner across the slot to Evgeni Malkin who snaps a one-timer. Rick DiPietro makes the save but the rebound kicks out to the slot where Ryan Malone is able to sweep it into the net with a backhander. Penguins 1-0.

0:00: End of period. As the horn sounds, Georges Laraque checks Radek Martinek into the boards and gets into a tussle with Martinek and Witt. The rest of the players gather on the ice behind the Islander net, but nothing much happens. Penguins 1, Islanders 0.

FIRST INTERMISSION

-FSN Pittsburgh has a heck of a "statistic" if you can call it that. Three members of the Islanders are members of the First Nations Ojibway Tribe: Ted Nolan, John Chabot and Chris Simon

SECOND PERIOD

18:10: From the right faceoff circle, Tyler Kennedy takes the puck and turns around firing a quick shot that appears to go in and bounce out real quick. Gary Roberts puts his hands up to celebrate but the officials wave "no goal and play continues.

16:41: Crosby takes a pass from Ryan Malone in the neutral zone and flies into the Islanders zone. He has an open shot but elects to send a drop pass. Chris Simon ends up stealing the puck and the Penguins miss an opportunity to even get a shot on net. Thousands of Penguins fans scream, "Shoot!

16:21: The first stoppage since the non-goal by Kennedy and a horn sounds signaling that the officials will go to the video to see if it's a goal or not. Replays show the puck bounced off the near post, up into the netting at the top of the goal and out of the net. After ruling it a goal, the officials put reverse the clock back to 18:12. Penguins 2-0.

13:24: Bob Errey makes a Kay Whitmore reference. Awesome.

12:27: On a power play, Bill Guerin fire a shot from the left faceoff circle. Fleury makes the save with his left leg. The rebound kicks out into the crease to Ruslan Fedotenko who has a clear shot but he ends up hitting the heel of Jordan Staal's skate.

11:40: Crosby tries to play the puck off the boards behind the Penguins net but a it hits wrong and bounces out awkwardly off the back boards and bounces out into the crease where Trent Hunter is able to fires a shot through a Mike Sillinger screen and past Fleury. It's a bit of a lucky goal, but it counts the same. Penguins 2-1.

8:06: FSN Pittsburgh with another quality stat; The age of several Penguins when Al Arbour won his last game in 1994:

PlayerAgeJordan Staal5Sidney Crosby6Tyler Kennedy7Evgeni Malkin7Gary Roberts68

6:05: Crosby drives to the net and Martinek lifts his stick and it clips DiPietro into face. The Islanders goaltender leaves the ice to go to the locker room. Wade Dubielewicz will replace DiPietro for the rest of the night. DiPietro returns to the ice for a moment to show off a small cut near his eye. Due to the cut, Crosby will get four minutes for high-sticking. Errey suggest that the cut is fake.

2:05: Miroslav Satan feeds Witt the puck in the slot and he fires a wrist shot that Fleury is able to eat up and freeze. This essentially kills the Islanders power play.

1:01: Volek. Sigh.

0:00: End of period. Penguins 2, Islanders 1

SECOND INTERMISSION-Alexander mispronounces two more names while showing NHL highlights. Henrik Lundquist comes out "Henrik Lindquist" and Chuck Kobasew is pronounced "Chuck Kobostew." We've all made mistakes. We've made our share of them in EN. But mispronouncing three names while doing highlights is inexcusable.

-We get the obligatory shot of Mike Yeo from FSN Pittsburgh.

THIRD PERIOD

19:10: Dubielewicz has the old Gorton's Fishstick logo on his helmet. Did anyone tell him that wasn't very popular up there on the Island?

14:30: Josef Vasicek takes the puck into the Penguins zone and pulls up on in the left faceoff circle. Darryl Sydor and Nasreddine both commit to him which leaves Satan open. Vasicek hits Satan with a pass in the crease and he buries a shot past Fleury's blocker. Islanders 2, Penguins 2.

14:16: In the crease, Crosby takes a pass from Malkin and fires a shot that clinks off the post.

2:41: Marc-Andre Bergeron sends a wrist shot from the point. Fleury makes the save with his left leg but gives up a pretty bad rebound. Satan is able react quick enough to bang it into an open net. Islanders 3-2.

1:06: Fleury leaves the net and is replaced by Erik Christensen as an extra attacker.

0:00: End of period. Islanders 3, Penguins 2.

POSTGAME

-It's to blame Fleury about this game. He was bombarded with 39 shots and only the third goal was really his fault due to the bad rebound.

-Following the game, the Islanders raised a new banner for Arbour.

-The Penguins were out-shot 39-25. You won't win many hockey games having that happen.

-Islanders assistant coach Gerard Gallant looks like former Steelers offensive lineman Craig Wofley.
