Duquesne is halfway to a full 2014 recruiting class.

Dukes men’s coach Jim Ferry announced the signing of forward TySean Powell of Bradenton, Florida, and the addition of guard Rene Castro, a transfer from Butler.

Powell averaged 16.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a senior at IMG Academy. He scored 20 or more points six times and posted seven double-doubles in 19 games.

Castro announced his transfer last week. Castro, a 6-foot-2 guard, averaged 3.3 points in 8.8 minutes per game in 12 games at Butler. He will sit out the 2014-15 season due to transfer restrictions and have three seasons of eligibility at Duquesne.

Guard Eric James of Westerville, Ohio, is expected to sign his national letter of intent today. Because guard Tra’Vaughn White announced his departure two weeks ago, Duquesne has one more scholarship left for this class and the coaching staff has been exploring a number of junior-college options.
