Duquesne's first trip into the Consol Energy Center last week against Pitt ended with the Dukes getting blown out by more than 20 points.

So tonight when the Dukes played host to West Virginia in their second game of the season at Consol, they wanted to make sure they made a better showing for themselves.

And the Dukes did just that as they fought off a slow start, a tough night shooting and the Mountaineers size advantage to pull off a 60-56 upset at Consol Energy Center.

It is the first win by the Dukes (6-4) in this series since 2002 as it snaps an 8-game losing streak in the series. West Virginia (4-4) also came into the game on a three-game winning streak this season but had that snapped as well.

Early on, though, it looked like this game was going to be yet another blowout loss at the hands of a major conference foe for the Dukes as they trailed the Mountaineers 36-23 at the half.

But they started the second half with a 9-3 run then used a 16-8 run midway through the second half to grab their first lead of the game -- 50-49 -- on a 3-point play by Jerry Jones with 5:48 to play.

Derrick Colter then made a reverse layup with 2:00 to play to give the Dukes a 55-53 lead. Then, after a missed shot by West Virginia's Deniz Kilicli, Colter made another with 1:15 to play to give the Dukes a 57-53 lead.

After a steal, Jerry Jones made a transition layup with 28 seconds to play but Matt Humphrey hit a 3-pointer for West Virginia with 16 seconds to play to pull the Mountaineers to within 59-56.

However, the Mountaineers, who shot 34 percent from the field (22-of-65) and were outrebounded 43-38, could get no closer and Derrick Colter sealed the win for the Dukes with a free throw with 3.7 seconds to play.

Jones led the Dukes with 16 points while Juwan Staten scored 13 for West Virginia.
