Junior guard Brianna Kiesel was one of three players in double figures, but the Pitt Panthers dropped their inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference game Thursday, 78-69, to No. 21 Florida State at Petersen Events Center.
Kiesel scored 20 points, Loliya Briggs had 15 and Asia Logan added 14 for the Panthers (8-7), who trailed by as many as 18 early in the first half but got within six points with 1:13 remaining.
Natasha Howard led the Seminoles (13-1) with 27 points. Florida State also forced Pitt into a season-high 25 turnovers.
"Obviously I am disappointed with the outcome, but our players competed; we never quit and continued to battle," said coach Suzie McConnell-Serio. "We got within six, with the ball, and missed two shots and a couple of free throws. If we make any of those plays, it changes the complexion of the game."
