Pitt safety Ray Vinopal was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week Monday after his performance in the Panthers’ 28-21 win against No. 24 Notre Dame Saturday.
Vinopal had two fourth-quarter interceptions to help Pitt pull ahead, and also forced a fumble deep in Panther territory in the second quarter to end a Notre Dame scoring threat.
“To be able to create turnovers is a big deal in a football game,” Vinopal said. "Turnover margin usually determines who comes out with a win.”
Vinopal has three picks on the season for Pitt and has broken up five passes on the season. He is also third on the team with 53 tackles. Pitt returns to action Saturday with a home game against North Carolina.
