Following a directive from the WPIAL, Greensburg Central Catholic High School has suspended boys basketball coach Greg Bisignani for the next three games over accusations that he made physical contact with a game official after a loss a few weeks ago.
The WPIAL Board of Control had a hearing with Bisignani and game officials Monday. Bisignani was accused of bumping official Mike Tucci after a loss to McKeesport Jan. 18. Bisignani was upset at the officiating in the game.
On Tuesday, the WPIAL issued an edict to Greensburg Central Catholic, saying the team would be barred from the playoffs unless the school suspended Bisignani three games for his actions and conduct toward Bucci. Bisignani denied he made contact with Bucci.
The Diocese of Greensburg issued a news release this morning, saying it will comply with the WPIAL's request and Bisignani will be suspended for the next three games Friday, Monday and Tuesday.
"We did not want to jeopardize the boys' opportunity to participate in this year's WPIAL playoffs, which was the penalty if Greensburg Central Catholic did not abide by the WPIAL sanctions," said Sister Mary Norbert Long, interim principal at Greensburg Central Catholic. "However, I want to be clear that we do not condone inappropriate conduct by anyone associated with our athletic programs."
