WASHINGTON -- The Pirates today unconditionally released pitching prospect Olivo Astacio for what they described as a "significant violation of organizational policy."

No specifics were given.

Astacio, 23, was added to the 40-man roster last fall because the team liked his velocity, but he missed all of spring training due to a shoulder injury. He did not pitch at all this season. He spent last season at three levels, the highest being Class AA Altoona.

Also, injured shortstop Jack Wilson will begin his minor-league rehabilitation a day later than expected, Saturday, with Altoona. He took at-bats today in extended spring training and will take more tomorrow.

More details in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.
