The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, the grandaddy of all programs based on the "talent search" model, which tests more than 150,000 students across the country in an effort to provide students an opportunity to study with intellectual peers. Top scorers qualify to take advanced courses at the Baltimore-based campus and at 16 other locations. Special efforts are made to identify gifted students in low-income areas.
