State police arrested two men today in connection with the slaying of an Indiana County man on a walking trail Monday night.
Christopher Salsgiver, 22, and Gregory Patterson, 33, both of Glen Campbell, were charged with homicide in the death of James Alexander, 46, of Ernest.
Mr. Alexander was found shot in the head on a trail near Route 403 in Clymer, state police said.
He had attended a party at a friend's house before going for a walk on the nearby trail, according to an Indiana County coroner's office. Shortly after, about 9:20 p.m., friends reported hearing gunshots and went to the trail, where they found Mr. Alexander. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m.
"It appears the individuals did know each other. It appears there was a robbery motive," said Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty. "Possibly drugs and money were involved in the robbery scheme."
Mr. Patterson faces a number of charges, including homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, two robbery charges, and six charges of conspiracy. Police said Mr. Salsgiver faces charges of homicide and related offenses.
Both are being held in the Indiana County Jail.
