Pittsburgh area, region, still feeling effects in storm's wake

Snow was continuing to fall Wednesday morning in the higher elevations east of Pittsburgh -- but residents to the south and west of the city started to see their first flurries of the season in the predawn hours.
Most of the city and suburban areas, however, were facing light rain, diminishing winds and chilly temperatures.
A wintry mix, and some snow, was falling before 6:30 a.m. in areas near the Pittsburgh International Airport. Weather radar indicated light snowfall in areas such as Oakdale, McDonald, Burgettstown, Washington, Pa., and into Weirton, W.Va., and Steubenville, Ohio.
The National Weather Service reported at least 13 inches of snow at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Somerset County. Weather radar before sunrise indicated snowfall in areas around Uniontown, north into Johnstown, Altoona, Clearfield and Philipsburg. Precipitation in the form of rain was falling from Allegheny County to the north and west near Salem, Ohio, though temperatures hovered just above freezing, reaching into the upper 30s.
Somerset was under a winter storm warning until 2 p.m. today, with 2 to 4 more inches expected in most areas and 6 inches on the ridge tops, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood advisory remains in effect for the Ohio River in Pittsburgh until Thursday afternoon. The Ohio River was at 18.9 feet about 9 p.m. Flood stage begins at 25 feet.
The Mon Wharf remains closed to parking until futher notice over concerns of rising water levels.
Two landslides have been blocking traffic on Route 837. The first slide occurred around 8 last night near West Mifflin, but a second happened early this morning near Dravosburg. A driver also flipped an SUV overnight on the Glenwood Bridge, but it is not known if it was a weather-releated incident.
Some delays were being experienced at Pittsburgh International Airport. Travelers should check with airlines before heading to the airport.
