In Dan Simpson’s column “Are We Circling the Drain?” (Sept. 12), he posits: “Now, what about Mr. Trump? He is unfit to be president.” What needs to be done?
A change to a preferential voting system would remedy what occurred in the 2016 presidential primary, in which a minority Republican voting bloc got their candidate selected to represent the Republican Party. The cure for this is a preferential voting system, which allows voters to designate not just one choice but an order of preference of three candidates.
This method provides for an accumulation of voter preferences preventing a minority bloc from hijacking an election. The “cream of the crop” would eventually gain the majority of votes.
