I am furious with UPMC for placing an ad in the Post-Gazette telling Highmark customers that as of 2015 they will no longer have access to any doctor on the list of 1,600. UPMC makes me sick. As a nonprofit organization, it should be all-inclusive or lose its nonprofit status. For many years, UPMC took Highmark patients. A large chunk of its revenue came from these patients. Now, all of a sudden, these patients will be denied access to UPMC doctors in an attempt for UPMC to drive Highmark out of business and gain a monopoly on health care coverage.
Some of my doctors are on that list, but I am so angry and disgusted at UPMC that I will switch doctors rather than let UPMC get away with this unethical ploy.
I hope other Highmark patients do the same thing even though I realize it is difficult to give up your physician and change. UPMC needs to be taught a lesson. If it thinks putting out this list will draw patients to its network, we need to show UPMC that what it is doing is wrong. Stand united, Highmark customers.
Highmark, please put a list in the paper of Highmark specialists so we know where to transfer our records.
