Regarding the lack of funding for the Allegheny County Crime Lab (“Funding Shortfall Imperils Crime Lab,” Aug. 11):

I can think of two possible ways to fund our local crime lab. One is the Allegheny County district attorney’s asset forfeiture account. Those are funds seized and forfeited following criminal prosecutions in the county.

The second pool of money available is the state Legislature’s slush fund. A $150 million-plus account can pay for a lot of crime lab tests. Our selfish representatives will probably vote to raise our taxes.
