Will Putin blame his food embargo on the West?

In 1980, Jimmy Carter enacted a grain embargo on the former Soviet Union in response to its invasion of Afghanistan. Nearly 35 years later, Vladimir Putin of Russia is enacting an embargo on food imports from Western nations to his own country. At the same time, he is assembling troops on the border of Ukraine, known as the “breadbasket of Europe” because it produced 25 percent of the food supply to the former Soviet Union.

Can any intelligent progressive please explain to this Fox News viewer why Mr. Putin would impose the same sanctions affecting his own country as former presidents of the United States used to do? Is it possible he may be creating a shortage in his own country, blaming the West? I can’t wait to hear another excuse that President Barack Obama was caught off-guard by Russia’s actions.
